FRITZBox integrates smart phones into your home network

AVM premiered an application for smart phones at the CeBIT 2010. The beauty of the FRITZ!App software is that iPhones or mobile phones with the Android operating system can be used at home for fixed-line and ADSL communication. All you have to do is connect your mobile phone to the FRITZ!Box via WLAN.

Smart phones can be used at home for fixed-line and ADSL communication.

With its new app for smart phones, AVM has opened up a whole range of new possibilities for home networks. If you are a smart phone user, you can see who called your fixed-line the second you get home. You can call the person back right from your smart phone either over VoIP or the fixed-line network. Other FRITZ!Box functions like the telephone book or answering machine are also available. If you want, the FRITZ!Box will route incoming calls, be they fixed-line or VoIP, within the WLAN network right to your smart phone. And, of course, you can also make outgoing calls from your smart phone with the FRITZ!Box.

New possibilities for home networks

More and more people have started using their smart phones at home because WLAN and ADSL connections improve ease-of-use and speed tremendously. The difference in speed when surfing or sending e-mails with ADSL is unmistakable. The WLAN ADSL connection is also ideally suited for uploading photos and videos to Facebook, YouTube and other services. Apps are also available that let you access files in the network storage (NAS) or use your phone as a remote control (UPnP control point). It's easy and cheap to make calls and use data applications via the Internet or the fixed-line network.

The German FRITZ!App lab gets underway for the CeBIT

AVM showcased new application options in a German FRITZ!App lab for Android mobile phones at this year's CeBIT. An iPhone version will be close on its heels. In the planning stages for one of the next versions is HD telephony with new features, which will allow smart phones to be used at home with greatly voice quality for phone calls.
