Berlin's Olympic Stadium was the venue for the World Athletics Championships.

The world's best and fastest athletes assembled in the German capital from 15 to 23 August to display all of their skills at the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships berlin 2009™. When the starting shot was fired, AVM and the FRITZ!Box were transmitting live.

The FRITZ!Box WLAN models 3270 (120 units) and 3170 (20) were deployed on site. Installed in the media center of the World Championships, they secured Internet access for journalists and television teams.

A very good choice - after all, the FRITZ!Box WLAN 3270 was recently awarded a rating of "GOOD (2.1)" as the best WLAN router participating in the "PC Home Networking" test of the consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest (08/2009 issue).

WPA2 encryption provided for maximum security during Internet searches

The fast, modern WLAN-N standard integrated in the FRITZ!Box WLAN 3270 ensured that around 3,500 journalists and reporters from all over the world were able to report instantaneously on the latest events and records. The media representatives also used the FRITZ!Box devices to research in the Internet for their background stories and reports.

Maximum security for Internet research was guaranteed by the WPA2 encryption configured ex works. What is more, the 3270 supported connections in both the 24-GHz and the GHz bands. The advantages of the more seldom used 5-GHz band are especially important in areas where many radio networks overlap.

The organizers were pleased to sell a total of over 400,000 tickets. And nearly 10 million people followed the men's 100m in front of their television screens - the highest number of viewers ever for a television broadcast of an athletics event.

The 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™ took place in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin Charlottenburg, a sports venue steeped in history, offering seating for 74,228 spectators.
