ISDN CAPI Port Driver

The AVM CAPI Port Driver allows Windows applications that were developed for use with analog modems to operate the AVM ISDN-Controller. The CAPI Port Driver creates a number of "virtual modems" in the system so that fax or terminal programs that expect an analog modem can communicate over ISDN.

The CAPI Port Driver's virtual modems are ready for use in such applications, once its simple Windows setup program has been run, with no further configuration steps. The virtual modems also provide special configurations for individual Internet service providers' ISDN dial-in ports. The protocols required for Windows' Remote Access Service (RAS) can also be selected.

From a technical point of view, the AVM ISDN CAPI Port Driver forms an interface layer between the Unimodem architecture of Windows Me/98 or Windows XP/2000 and the CAPI 2.0 applications interface. The AVM ISDN CAPI Port Driver accepts modem-style AT commands from the application to adjust the ISDN protocols for a variety of remote systems.

The CAPI Port Driver's virtual modem "AVM ISDN Fax (G3)", for example, can be used as a fax modem in MS Exchange or Outlook, as well as in other Group 3 fax applications for Windows. The "AVM ISDN Custom Config" modem provides a configurable, universal modem emulation for special applications, such as connections to GSM equipment (i.e. mobile phones). The virtual modem "AVM ISDN Internet (PPP over ISDN)" is used for Internet access over ISDN. Digital BBS systems can be accessed using terminal programs such as HyperTerminal using the "AVM ISDN Mailbox X.75" modem.
