ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI

AVM ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI are a universally employable driver implementation for the use of TAPI telephony applications with AVM ISDN-Controllers based on Windows Me/98 and Windows 2000/NT 4.0. The "dialing assistant" integrated in Windows Me/98 and Windows 2000/NT 4.0 can be used to establish connections to any analog or ISDN telephones. The actual conversation (in this case, the "data flow"), then takes place by means of either an existing sound system and a headset or via speaker and microphone. Suitable TAPI applications allow numerous additional features to be used. Such features include direct dialing to remote sites from applications like MS Outlook 98/2000, and transferring conversations to other ISDN telephones on the same S0 bus, performed with the ISDN feature "Parking at the bus" (Call-Hold/Retrieve in accordance with ETS 300 139).

Any TAPI (Telephony API) applications built on Microsoft TAPI 2.1 or higher can be used with AVM ISDN-Controllers and AVM ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI. Technically speaking, AVM ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI function as "TSPs" (TAPI Service Providers) for AVM ISDN-Controllers. These are addressed over the application interface COMMON-ISDN-API 2.0 (CAPI). This standardized, manufacturer-independent CAPI 2.0 interface is provided by all AVM ISDN-Controllers and initialized by the respective installation programs of the controllers.

AVM ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI comprise the mediating level between the TAPI application, the MS TAPI driver and the AVM CAPI 2.0 Controller driver. The extent to which the range of TAPI functions is exploited varies according to which TAPI-based application is employed. ISDN-specific features can be configured separately, e.g. any desired MSN assignments in AVM ISDN TAPI Services for CAPI for incoming and outgoing connections.
