Online hard drive

An online hard drive (WebDAV) is a virtual hard drive in the Internet that provides you with safe storage for your personal files. With online storage you have access to your digital photos, music and documents no matter where you are - all you need is a computer with an Internet connection and the account information to access your online drive. Individual files and even entire folders can be sent there for online storage.

Here’s how to protect yourself

The security of your data depends on the provider of your online hard drive.
Whenever possible, use an online drive provider that supports HTTPS. HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) is a respected and very secure method for transmitting encrypted data in the Internet.

Here’s how AVM protects you

The FRITZ!Box allows you secure access to your online hard drive.
The online storage function of the FRITZ!Box (WebDAV client) supports HTTP and HTTPS connections to the server. Which of the two methods is used depends on your provider. Not every provider supports HTTPS for online storage. However, only with HTTPS are the user name, password and data transmitted in encrypted form.
An encrypted connection to the server can be recognized by the "https://" address in the configuration of your FRITZ!Box.
Ideally, any USB storage devices connected to the FRITZ!Box should be encrypted with a password as well.
