VPN security

VPN stands for "Virtual Private Network". A VPN can be used, for instance, to connect various locations of a company network in a secure, encrypted network. Field representatives can access the company network via VPN, and private users can use it to connect to their home networks. In short: VPN permits safe and simple connections to remote networks.

Generally speaking: Remote access via VPN is considered to be secure. On their way through the Internet the data are protected from unauthorized access by very powerful encryption techniques.
VPN connections are thus often described as a secure "tunnel" built to the remote site through the Internet.

In AVM devices the VPN tunnel is always established using IPSec, a VPN standard that is recognized for its security and utilized all over the world.
Several encryption techniques are included in the IPSec standard. In its FRITZ!Box AVM uses only the modern AES ("Advanced Enryption Standard") method. AES caters to the highest security demands to prevent unauthorized data decryption.
For additional security AVM has developed an IP stack to ensure reliable firewall protection from Internet traffic.
