I cannot dial or receive any calls over my analog phone line. What can I do?
There may be various reasons why you cannot dial or receive calls on FRITZ!Box's analog extensions. Perform the steps described here one after another, and after each step, test whether you can dial phone calls.
- Make sure that your phone line is free. Pick up the receiver of an extension phone connected to FRITZ!Box, and dial * 1 1 # .
If you hear a busy signal, go on to the next step. If you hear a dial tone, the test indicates that the extension has been assigned an incorrect number. Assign this extension a different number in the FRITZ!Box user interface. For more information about assigning numbers to the extensions, please see the on-line Help in the configuration.
- Connect the ADSL splitter correctly to your provider's first line jack. The "first line jack" is the first jack installed by your telephone company. Do not connect the ADSL splitter to any jack installed later.
- Disconnect any other equipment (such as phones or faxes) that may be plugged into the first jack alongside the ADSL splitter. Ask your provider for instructions on connecting other telecommunications equipment and jacks.
- Connect FRITZ!Box to the ADSL splitter using an eight-lead cable, such as the ISDN/analog cable supplied. Plug one end of the cable into the "ISDN/analog" socket on your FRITZ!Box, and the black RJ-11 adapter into the telephone jack of the ADSL splitter.
- Connect your analog terminal equipment to the extension jacks marked "FON1" and "FON2" on your FRITZ!Box.
If the problem persists, check for the following possible causes:
- Check whether the cable between FRITZ!Box and the ADSL splitter is damaged. Test by substituting the red network cable supplied. If that fixes the problem, then the other cable is defective.
- Check whether the telephone is defective, or your phone line is out of order. Test by unplugging the ADSL splitter from the first TAE jack, then connecting your telephone directly to the middle socket of the first TAE jack. If you still cannot dial a call, then either the telephone is defective or your telephone line is out of order.
