How can I receive faxes with the FRITZ!Box without using a fax machine?
If you have one of the following FRITZ!Boxes, you can receive faxes with your FRITZ!Box without having to turn on your computer or use a fax machine:
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 (Annexes A and B)
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 (Annexes A and B)
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 International Edition
The FRITZ!Box's integrated fax machine receives faxes and either sends them to you via e-mail or saves the faxes on a USB mass storage device (hard drive, memory stick) attached to your FRITZ!Box.

Configuring FRITZ!Box to receive faxes
In order to configure FRITZ!Box to receive faxes, proceed as follows:
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click on "Settings".
- "Advanced Settings" > "Telephony" > "Telephony Devices"
- Click on "Configure New Device".
- Under "Integrated in the FRITZ!Box," select "Fax reception".
- Click "Next".
- In field "Fax ID", specify which fax ID should be returned to the sender of a fax.
NOTE:
The sender receives a confirmation that his fax has been sent during fax transmission. Here, enter the message to be returned. This could be your number or your name, for instance. - Choose how the FRITZ!Box should handle received faxes: "Forward received faxes by e-mail" and/or "Save faxes on the USB mass storage device". The fax is then forwarded and/or saved in PDF format.
In order to forward faxes to multiple e-mail addresses, simply separate these with a comma.Example:
william.smith@aol.com,william.smith@o2.co.ukIf you cannot enable the option "Save faxes on the USB mass storage device", either there is no USB mass storage device connected to the FRITZ!Box, or the USB Remote Connection is activated for your USB device. In order to deactivate it in the FRITZ!Box user interface, select "Advanced Settings > USB devices > USB Remote Connection" and deactivate the USB Remote Connection for your USB mass storage device. - Click "Next".
- If you selected the option "Forward received faxes by e-mail" and have not yet configured the FRITZ!Box Push Service:
- As the name of sender, use a name of your choice.
- As the "E-Mail return address", enter the e-mail address to which the e-mail should be sent.
- In the field "Name of SMTP server", enter the SMTP server of your e-mail provider. If the SMTP server does not use the standard port 25, also enter the port number separated by a colon.
Example:
The name of the SMTP server is smtp.de.post.net and the SMTP server uses port 599. In this case, you would enter the following: smtp.de.post.net:599.Should you have any questions regarding the correct name and port number of the SMTP server used, please contact your e-mail provider. SMTP servers are used to send outgoing e-mails (SMTP = Simple Mail Transport Protocol). - If the SMTP server requires authentification, check "E-mail user name" and enter the user name and password for your e-mail account. These e-mailaccount entries can be edited any time on the user interface of the FRITZ!Box under "System > Push-Service".
You may click the "Test Settings" button to make sure that all settings are correct, and that the mail arrives at the specified recipient's address.
- Click "Next".
- From the list "Fax number" select which number should be used for fax reception. The internal fax machine will now receive every call for these numbers, also voice calls.
orIf available, select "for fax recognition". The FRITZ!Box will check whether the call is a fax or voice call. Faxes are then automatically forwarded to the internal fax machine.
- Click "Next" > "Apply" to save your settings.
- If you selected an Internet number for receiving faxes:
In the FRITZ!Box user interface, select "Telephony > Internet Telephony > Advanced Settings" and activate the option "Fax transmission also with T.38". Click "Apply".
- If you selected the option "for fax recognition":
Fax recognition is only activated once a telephone or answering machine has taken the call. If you want your FRITZ!Box to automatically receive faxes, either enable and configure an integrated answering machine in your FRITZ!Box or use an answering machine connected to your FRITZ!Box.
Your FRITZ!Box's integrated fax machine is now ready to receive faxes. Faxes will either be forwarded to the e-mail address you configured or they will be saved on the USB mass storage device in a folder called "Telefax".
