How can I access a USB Mass Storage Device that is connected to the FRITZ!Box?
The FRITZ!Box offers three different possibilities for accessing a USB mass storage device that each serve different scenarios:
Enable USB network memory (SMB)
The USB network storage allows the integration of the USB mass storage device as a network drive in Windows and comfortable file access via the Windows Explorer. Computers with other operating systems (e.g. Mac OS X, Linux) can also access the USB network memory via the SMB protocol (Server Message Block).
For the operation as USB network memory, the USB storage device must be formatted with the file system FAT or FAT32.
FTP access for the USB storage device
The FTP protocol (File Transfer Protocol) allows the access of a USB storage from all operating systems via an Internet browser or an FTP program. Optionally, file access via the Internet is possible.
For FTP access, the USB storage must be formatted with the file system FAT or FAT32.
Connecting the USB storage device to the computer via the USB Remote Connection
When connecting a USB storage device to a computer via the USB Remote Connection, the computer behaves as if the USB storage device were directly connected. This also allows the connection of USB storage devices to the USB port that are formatted with different file systems (e.g. exFAT) apart from FAT or FAT32.
NOTE:
The USB Remote Connection is only available for Windows 7 / Vista / XP (32 bit and 64 bit each).
